School Charity Event in Henan, China
On March 4th 2011, the Yo Yo Mission reached out to ZhengZhou school in Henan, China where, unquestionably, conditions are extremely deprived and the children are in desperate need. Yo Yo Mission believes in the power of a smile, so to see the children’s faces when they were presented with a bounty of books and sports equipment was invaluable. In addition to the gifts, we gave a few lessons in English, while incorporating fun into the classroom with an animal word game. The younger children were lively and excitable offering up answers wherever they could. Their enthusiasm for learning became almost exhausting!
Unfortunately for these energetic children, their surroundings do not match their enthusiasm. There is at least 30 children to one bedroom with no heating or lighting whilst the local temperature is currently -5 Celsius. The hygiene facilities are no better. The toilets were primitive and often required cleaning by the children themselves; following this, the two sinks, that the school was able to offer, would struggle to cope with all 200 children requiring a wash. These are facilities that so many of us often take for granted. That is why we here at Yo Yo Mission hope to come back soon to re-build and improve classrooms, washrooms, living accommodations and other facilities for them.
This trip has been emotional but positive as we learn from our experiences and continually strive to give children a brighter future! Of course, thanks must be extended to all those who supported us on this project; the trip was only made possible by your donations and support. Thanks also to ZhengZhou Broadcasting for highlighting our story on TV and to ZhengZhou Evening Post for including us in their newspaper. Lastly, thank you to the lovely Yo Yo group for reaching out with Yo Yo’s mission.
